UGANDA LINK PROJECT
2005
The
Team in Uganda
At the
beginning of July seven 16 year olds from St David's College spent 3
weeks at John Njendahayo's Link Centre in Kampala. The centre
has been build in partnership with a number of churches and local
Christians together with St David's College.

The purpose of the centre is to enable
young people to come together from Rwanda and Uganda with young
people from Wales in order to share faith, skills and their life
experiences.

Two teachers from St David's College
looked after the team whilst Sarah and Natalie from 15+/Mission House
led a programme with the team in a Shanty Town School at Katwe.

The programme involved building two
new classrooms and teaching art, craft, dance and games with the
children.
Work
in progress
For the first time the shanty town
dwellers saw white people serving their people and especially their
children. For one old man who watched over the school compound
wall this experience brought him to a place of forgiveness and
restoration with white people. This summarises the whole
purpose of the project - bringing peace and forgiveness between
people.

The centre is available for any young
people from our communities and churches here in Wales. We have
one 18 year old spending several months of his GAP year going out in
November. We are seeking wider expertese over the next few
years to really establish the Christian Ministry and teaching from
the Centre and to develop close links with the local churches around
the Centre.

It is also likely that other skills will be required to establish IT teaching and courses on a commercial basis from the centre to make this a self sustaining project, as well as building and electrical skills.

Next summer another small team of 16
year olds will be spending several weeks at the Centre and working in
the same school.
