Uganda Link Project 2005

Follow up Report (April 2006)

Since November 2005, work on the new accommodation at John Njendahayo's Link Centre in Kampala has come along fast and the plan is to have it completed ready for this summer's groups of young people.  The accommodation will give huge flexibility, for groups, or families, or longer stay visitors who need an escape from stressful U.K. Western life and see God and life in a new way.

Just back from Uganda is ex Mission Houser and local lad Gavin Mart seen here in Uganda.  Gavin is now a firefighter in Leeds and an expert health and safety risk assessor and he went with a small group from Leeds in March on a fact finding mission and to assess health and safety issues for us.

Gavin visited remote villages on a quad bike! and miraculously walked away with John and the rest of the team from a major car crash, completely unscathed.

As a result of this accident new safety measures are in place for travel and transport and a generous benefactor in Japan has given us a fabulous seven-seater people carrier and this together with a four wheel drive vehicle will be shipped from Japan to Mombassa in the next few weeks and Gavin and a team will drive the vehicles overland to Uganda ready for this summer's visitors.

Two teams will be spending June and July with John in Uganda - an all girls team including Laura Whitaker from Emmanuel Christian Centre and Llandrillo College will spend several weeks working in Katwe School (enthusiastically awaited above), Pastor Sarah's shanty town ministry, Pastor Emmy's church in Mbarara and The Revd Arthur's Church in Ngara.  In July a team of eight 16 year olds and staff from St David's College will spend two weeks working with the children in Katwe School and one week in Rwanda.

We are planning on Gavin Mart spending much of the summer with the teams co-ordinating transport and overseeing safety and that Robert Williams-Day who spent 4 months there from November - February and is currently staying in Mission House and helping with the work here, will also return and help host the teams at the Centre in Kampala this summer.

Blessings, Tim
